To a certain extent, they are also paying the price of their success on the pitch, as this has triggered hefty bonus payments to the players.

Often, when clubs have problems with debt, it's not so much the magnitude that's the issue, but the timing of the repayments. This is why Arsenal's LT debt is not a concern, but Liverpool's ST debt is.

I also think that there is an element of the new president getting all the bad news out of the way early in his tenure, so that any problems can be blamed on his predecessor. We see this type of behaviour time after time when a new CEO starts his job in a company in the "normal" business world.

Their recent results were better than budgeted with revenue increasing by 10% to €445m, even though the costs increased by 18% to €429m.The Swiss Ramblerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11423088862174893998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-487486960623783530.post-86920396486081827682010-07-06T23:52:14.569+02:002010-07-06T23:52:14.569+02:00What are your thought on Barca having a "liqu...What are your thought on Barca having a "liquidity" problem and taking out a 150 million euro bank loan.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-487486960623783530.post-23440760378530023542010-07-03T13:28:32.384+02:002010-07-03T13:28:32.384+02:00Any chance you could work your magic and tell us w...Any chance you could work your magic and tell us what's happening over in Man Ure.. As an accountant and a Gooner to boot - I thank you for providing a blog rooted in reality (and entirely transfer speculation free)!

I think there is one benefit to the host nation - in that the infrastructure spend on roads, stadiums and ports is an investment that will give dividends in the future. Having worked in South Africa, I would say that these costs are necessary and without the world cup - there may not have been sufficient political will or clout to see this through.daoktanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-487486960623783530.post-4130748823652004482010-06-24T09:01:09.098+02:002010-06-24T09:01:09.098+02:00Yep, I found this blog through Matt Slater mention...Yep, I found this blog through Matt Slater mentioning it, and I'm very glad I did. T...You had me smiling at the first picture haha :)

Thanks for another great article. It was interesting to learn how FIFA budgets their operation on the World Cup.

There was an article in the BBC sports page that talked about the benefits of a host country. It stated there were few financial benefits but the event boosted national pride and happiness for their citizens.

I'm not sure what to say about it though. Everyone knows FIFA will reap the most financial gains and bidding nations should be fully aware of these terms. At the end of the day, it's going to be about business and it's the bidding committee's responsibility to make sure the financial/social rewards will outweigh the risks of hosting a mammoth event.

Maybe the bidding nations could form an agreement together to encourage/force FIFA to share more of their revenues, but I don't think it's realistic.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-487486960623783530.post-87876285467707328932010-06-17T13:59:45.768+02:002010-06-17T13:59:45.768+02:00Great piece.
