This is because Manchester United has a rich history and is expected to win every game and everything. But it is interesting in a way that a team compared to what is was a a decade ago is still able to do well financially. By well I mean really well. It is topping the charts for revenues as shown above. I think this shows it is all about the brand image and the brand name however, in the world of entertainment I still believe results are important as well. This was to cover some of their enormous debt.
Barcelona, famously, needed an emergency loan to pay their players. This, despite being in the top 5 richest clubs in the world.
I'm skeptical of Manchester United's rude financial health. It wasn't that long ago the club's debt forced the Glaziers into selling shares in the club. Now magically two bailed out entities in A.I.G. and Chevrolet want shirt sponsorship deals and are willing to pay more than double the highest price on the market. What happened to those payment in kind (PIK) loans that suddenly went missing.
It's all very reminiscent of the Euro swap deal Goldman Sach did to Greece's debt, that allowed it to meet E.U. eligibility criteria and join the union.

Not everything is as it seems with Manchester United's balance sheet.Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01176519054971993122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-487486960623783530.post-33931529132296292912016-10-18T18:03:11.376+02:002016-10-18T18:03:11.376+02:00there is a very fallacious assumption that you can...there is a very fallacious assumption that you can buy a dozen 'world class players' for £500m and they will miraculously gel together and beat all comers. Firstly the academy and development squads become full of young frustrated men who see little future at the club. Secondly you have issues of integrating different cultures, playing styles and languages into a coherent whole. Thirdly you have huge impatience from fans, sponsors and owners for immediate success.

One hopes that the levels of sponsorship do not reach the heights of sponsors expecting tournaments to be fixed for their pet clubs. Focusing on transfers and the football side of things, I think Manchester United's recent spending has so far failed to raise dividends on the pitch because apart from arguably Di Maria, Ibrahimovic and Mhiktaryan, so far I don't think they've signed a genuine world class player at his peak amongst all those deals. Di Maria was mis-managed and sold on, and Mourinho needs to be careful he doesn't repeat that mistake with Mihiktaryan. I'd argue they've only signed world class 'potential' in the likes of Martial, Depay, Herrera, Shaw, Bailly and even Pogba. They've relied on youngsters like Januzaj, Lingard and Rashford at different times. They signed internationals who I'd describe as fair, decent, ok players like Blind, Rojo, Darmian, Schneiderlin, Fellaini, Valencia, Ashley Young, Smalling, Jones and Mata- but who are not quite top drawer quality. And they've signed or relied on players who are declining forces like Radamel Falcao, Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger. So for all the money spent, who would you describe in the Man Utd squad as world class at this present time? Maybe De Gea, Mhiktaryan and Ibrahimovic. Pogba needs to step up. That's it. And it's why they've become also-rans behind the likes of Man City, Arsenal, Leicester and Spurs. Mourinho needs to find a way to find a balance and cohesion out of this team and squad that gets the best out of some very expensive individuals.Steve Macehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03023679590281883905noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-487486960623783530.post-33857769735153357712016-09-20T16:11:57.370+02:002016-09-20T16:11:57.370+02:00The problem of recruiting the right players must b...The problem of recruiting the right players must be taxing for all clubs. By contrast, the problem of sacking, or dropping, players who aren't good enough should be a piece of cake. So Mourinho has failed his first test: he's still fielding Rooney.deariemenoreply@blogger.com
