I've read quite a few of the articles on your blog and always appreciate the insight and balance you bring to your work.

It's very difficult to ascertain the amount of money clubs make from pre-season tours, as they very rarely break out this information in their accounts. The only one that I have found that provides this information is Barcelona, who received over €5 mln a couple of years ago for their pre-season tour to America.

However, this is only the direct income received. There is no way of knowing how much additional income they also generated for additional shirt sales, sponsorships, etc. The club's internal marketing department have probably estimated this, but would not share this data with outsiders. The Swiss Ramblerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11423088862174893998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-487486960623783530.post-55353121342065332392010-07-30T12:11:40.618+02:002010-07-30T12:11:40.618+02:00@gg8878,

As a Yank, and an Arsenal fan, I've always been curious as to exactly how much money European clubs make by doing pre-season tours of the United States.

You've alluded to it in your Barcelona-Fabregas piece and your Premier League bubble pieces, but I've always been curious just how much money is at stake. And I know that's a bit hard to quantify because there's probably some gains (increased overseas fan base, increased overseas shirt sales, etc.) that may not immediately show up on the bottom line.

Anyway, just thought it might make for an interesting piece. I would certainly read it, to find out just how much money Arsenal is not making by foregoing these tours. But I will probably keep reading all your work anyway. Thanks for all the good work.
